PhotosThe camera is quicker than the eye and sometimes captures images, a blur of light, a shadow, a smoky mist, or a translucent object that was not seen by the photographer. We will discuss the differences between the eye and the camera in SOUL NOTES over the next few months and, we will analyze many of the objects in the so-called "ghost photos". The introduction of increasingly sophisticated cameras, and film, is allowing photography into expanded light spectrums, resulting in pictures of objects that were previously "unseen" --- although they have been there all along. The following photos, and more that will be posted later, are samples of some of this fascinating phenomenon. We hope you enjoy these and will even send us some that you have taken. No fancy equipment is necessary, just some patience, reverence at the site, and, a little courage will sometimes help. We have had success using single reflex lens cameras with 200 and 400 speed film; Polaroid cameras; digital cameras, and even video cameras. At night, when some of the best photos are taken, use a standard flash attachment on your camera, being careful not to stir up any dust in the area; not to take a picture of your camera strap, scarf or long hair; not to take a picture of something that will reflect your own flash back at you; not to have moisture on the lens; not to take pictures of raindrops and insects; and not to take a picture of your own breath if the temperature is cool or cold. Have fun with it and, you may capture some very strange things showing up on your film --- things you didn't see when you snapped the picture. Just click on the one(s) you want to view.
